Alhaurín de la Torre Implements Preventive Fumigation

The local council has initiated fumigation efforts to combat mosquito populations and prevent the spread of the West Nile virus, following precautionary alerts. This action targets areas near the Guadalhorce River to ensure public safety.

The Councilor for the Environment of a municipality in Andalusia has emphasized the importance of annual fumigation against the tiger mosquito, cockroaches, and rodents in urban areas and manholes. Recently, they have received requests for help from other municipalities in the region to establish action plans in the face of potential problems.

In Málaga, Alhaurín de la Torre has been highlighted as one of the most mentioned locations, despite not having reported infections. The Junta de Andalucía has ordered the fumigation of the entire municipality as a preventive measure against the West Nile virus, especially in the banks of the Guadalhorce River near the town.

The City Council has responded to residents' requests to eliminate areas with mosquitoes and larvae, as well as to implement traps to capture these insects. Funding has been requested from the Junta de Andalucía to carry out these additional sanitation actions.

Although no cases of infection have been reported in Alhaurín de la Torre, preventive measures have been taken to protect residents. The detection of an infected mosquito in a nearby golf course has prompted the City Council to intensify fumigation efforts in the area to avoid potential contagion risks.

The concerns of the population have led to a general consensus on the importance of preventive fumigation. Residents like Salvador Martín express their fear of being bitten by infected mosquitoes, which has raised greater awareness about the prevention of diseases transmitted by these insects.

Collaboration between municipalities and intervention in areas prone to mosquito proliferation have been key to maintaining the situation under control. The distribution of informational material in mailboxes and the implementation of campaigns in educational centers have contributed to raising community awareness about the importance of prevention.

In light of the detection of new cases in nearby municipalities, vector control and communication measures have been intensified to contain the spread of the West Nile virus. Despite the absence of reported cases in the city, the alert level has been raised as a preventive measure against potential risk situations.
